There were times when I was the kid with the birth marks and there were times when I was the one who didn't approach the kid with the birth mark and, thinking about that now, how stupid and awful all around

One of the things I’ve learned with age: being concerned with what others think of my looks and behavior matters not at all, but kindness is an easy quality to embrace.

Hi Grimalkin, Sometimes I randomly look about for who’s doing what that I’ve never seen or thought of before. Kerplunk! This hunt I found your fascinating drawings and incisive remarks. Owning our own stuff doesn’t come naturally for most folks. So I admire that you wrote about the fellow in school born with a sizable birthmark covering nearly half his face. Simply avoiding him, never exchanging a word are not unusual reactions. Awkwardness is an is thing, not prone to just evaporate suddenly. I certainly was never taught/encouraged to practice acceptance in such instances. With right and proper Christian parents?? Giving away one’s art set my mind on a contemplative course. So many thoughts it’s best I move along. I’m prone to the two-year old “why, why, whys.” With good fortune for both of us I might come back around like a meteor shower the next time.

Thank you for looking and reacting to my drawings. Yours is the first comment that shows a person has really seen something in an image I created. Most just like and leave. Your comment means a lot to me. 🐈‍⬛

Thank you for letting me know that. Here, as in so many other parts of life, “Stick with the WINNERS” is one strategy to find “the good ones.” I easily refute that, noting that “winners” are just ones who have been discovered, liked and restacked.

The details you shared concerning your artistry, not just a one or two word title, is consistent with the advice of a painter/writer I know from Orkney, Scotland, a person I hold in high regard. Samantha Clark who posts almost every Wednesday under the title “The Lifeboat.” She coaches other artists, painters and writers, to use written information as part of the exhibition of a work they’ve done. Invite the viewer into your life experience or context of what was created. I’ve disavowed having any reason to call myself an “art critic.” I am a keen observer, like to connect dots in information I’ve been exposed to, and share some of those observations with others. I hope you continue to balance the “vicissitudes” of living and creating, and pop up in my stack now and then.
